Indigenous Bodywork

Indigenous bodywork encompasses the traditional healing modalities utilised by indigenous cultures to relieve individuals from physical pain, tension and often emotional blockages in the body.

In Rongoā Māori, bodywork involves the intuitive movement of practitioners, around the body, utilising their natural gifts and resources to encourage the release of stored tension and trauma from the body.

For Māori, it is essential that we acknowledge the significant role that our whakapapa, tūpuna, and whānau, play in our journey toward healing. Equally as important as whakapapa, is our connection to nature — our respect for and protection of Papatūānuku.

By acknowledging our lineage and environment, we recognise both as intricate systems within which we are inherently intertwined. In committing to healing ourselves as individuals, we commit to strengthening those systems for our tamariki and mokopuna.

Ngātahi offers Mirimiri / Romiromi within a safe space for both those new and those experienced with this type of work.

The goal of our service is to empower people to consider natural health care practices to enhance health and well-being for themselves and their family.

Romiromi

Romiromi is the physical aspect of the session, used to re-align and re-adjust the physical body using a combination of body parts, stones, and sticks to stimulate acupressure and acupuncture points to shift energy and relieve pain stored in the body.

Mirimiri is the energetic alchemy occurring before Romiromi includes: takutaku, waiata, korero, kōmiri, sound, wairua healiing.

Rongoā consultations are designed to empower your own wellness journey. The outcomes are your responsibility working together with Awhina, to reach your desired outcome.

Initial consultations are essential for initiating your journey in utilising rongoā as a tool to aid your healing .

During the session, deep held emotions may be brought to the surface. These emotional experiences are behind all physical, psychological or mental ailments.

As these issues surface, Awhina will whakawātea.
