Natural Medicinal Products

These natural products are all handmade from blends of locally harvested, native New Zealand plants, selected with intention for their respective medicinal healing properties according to rongoā rākau.

At Ngātahi, we work to the seasons of rongoā - we harvest the plants when they are available to us during spring, summer and autumn, we respect some plants are not available outside of their growth season. When Matariki rises in late June, we honour this as a time for rest. According to Māramataka, this is a time to turn inward, in a physical, spiritual and metaphorical sense.

As we turn our attention from the outward - harvesting and working, to the inward - fostering the relationships within our home; we draw closer to our whānau and ourselves. During this time, we also allow the ngāhere, and the earth to rest and replenish for the three months preceding spring.

This is an example of indigenous tīkanga which models sustainability; with respect for the earth and for the future generations, so that there is always enough.
